Frequently Asked Questions
Inpatient drug treatment is a level of care that is more intensive. During inpatient treatment, there should be medical professionals and licensed team members on staff 24/7. Our inpatient treatment programs (medical detox, residential inpatient) are therapeutically-intensive, offer amenities like laundry services, an on-site chef, open access to kitchen, lounge rooms, and counselors.
Because in the early stages of recovery, individuals require more medical attention, mental health support, and clinical care, an accredited inpatient program should always be the first step. If the individual seeking treatment is actively using any substances, he or she should always attend a medical drug detox program prior to a residential/inpatient program.
Inpatient treatment is best suited for individuals just beginning their recovery, or individuals who have relapsed and require more support.
You should pack for rehab like you will be going on a short stay-over at a friend or family member’s house.
- Light, comfortable clothing
- one or two pairs of shoes
- 4-6 changes of clothing, underwear, socks (per 7 day stay)
- toothbrush/toothpaste
- other hygiene products (cannot have any alcohol content)
- identification card, cell phone, etc (will be locked up in a secure safe during inpatient)
If you are looking for the best treatment program, you should look for…
a) a developed and thriving alumni community
b) accreditations and state licensure
c) a full continuum of care to provide support through out every step of the recovery process
The best treatment program for addiction recovery includes a full continuum of care. Treatment programs that offer continued care begin in detox to remove toxins from the guest’s system. After, guests transition into residential inpatient which extends the therapeutic treatment started in detox. Once they complete inpatient, guests work through the levels of care in an aftercare program. During aftercare, guests maneuver through partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP). Guests graduating aftercare may continue treatment into an outpatient program (OP). Additionally, it is incredibly beneficial for guests in aftercare and outpatient to live in a sobering living house to continue their immersion in the sober community.
We offer a full continuum of care at Royal Life Centers, including:
- Medical Detox
- Residential Inpatient
- 12-Week Outpatient Program (Partial-Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and Outpatient Levels of Care)
Prior to entering residential inpatient, individuals undergo assessments and screenings to determine the most beneficial level of care for his or her needs, goals, and circumstances.
Guests within our residential inpatient program are transitioned directly from our medical detox or observational period. For this reason, it is incredibly important for us to provide care with clinicians that you will work with through out your stay. Being asked to build trust with a new clinician every day of your stay is not something that we see as conducive to an effective recovery.
If our guest’s circumstances and responsibilities allow it, we always recommend that our guests attend a treatment facility out of the area of his or her usual routine.
Attending a treatment facility far away from where you live is beneficial for the following reasons:
- Triggers
Leaving an area you are accustomed to living a drug-seeking lifestyle in will help to distance you from triggers that could be a factor in a potential relapse. - Relationships
In any substance abuser’s life, there are toxic relationships included. Attending a treatment facility out of the general area will mitigate the possibility of you or your loved one reaching out to toxic people and negative forces in his or her life. Toxic relationships can add years and years of staying sick and suffering, we recommend if a couple is set on recovering “together,” attending a treatment center at the same time is a great option. Royal Life Centers will not admit a couple into the same facility at the same time. Couples can attend treatment at the same time, however, they must attend different facilities. - Reduces Risk of AMA
AMA or “against medical advice” is the terminology used to describe when an individual signs him or herself out of a treatment facility, against the advice and treatment plan of the clinical team or medical professionals on staff. Because almost every accredited drug and alcohol treatment center is a voluntary treatment center, we cannot and will not hold you or your loved one against your will. Addiction treatment is a voluntary service, we will not try to rehabilitate anyone who is unwilling to do so. Sending yourself or a loved one further away from home for treatment is an added step to ensure that he or she is focused solely on getting better. It is much easier to call a friend to pick you up if you are 20 minutes down the road, a flight away is a barrier that can make the difference between completing a treatment program and leaving a program against medical advice. - Focused Care
Individuals are more likely to focus on mental health and his or her recovery if he or she is removed from the distractions of everyday life. Being removed physically, as well as geographically, can truly put an individual in a mindset of focused healing. - Family Healing
We recommend that all family members impacted by their loved one’s addiction seek support from Al-Anon, Nar-Anon, or another program of recovery. It is imperative that while your loved one is seeking treatment, the family receives support and guidance simultaneously. Practicing boundary-setting, communication, and not enabling is best done while your loved one is re-building their life from afar, and not when he or she is back living near or inside your household.
